Brief Introduction
  • Dr Rajinder Singh Sidhu was born on August 8, 1958. He passed his matriculation from the rural school of his village, Sailbrah in Bathinda district and joined B.Sc. Agri (Hons.) at PAU in the year 1975. He completed his B.Sc. Agriculture (Hons.) from College of Agriculture, PAU, Ludhiana during 1980 with OGPA of 3.75/4.00. He also completed his M.Sc. (Agri Economic) in 1982 with OGPA 3.96/4.00 and Ph.D (Economics) in 1988 with OGPA 3.89/4.00 from PAU. He was awarded merit certificate in B.Sc. as well as M.Sc. program. He was the recipient of PAU Scholarship during B.Sc. and M.Sc. and ICAR Senior Fellowship in Ph.D program.  
  • He joined the PAU in December 1985 as Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics and Sociology and later on Chaired the Department since Feb 2, 2008 to Dec 2, 2009. Now, he is the Dean, College of Basic Sciences and Humanities, PAU, Ludhiana since December 2, 2009.  
  • He was a Visiting Scientist to International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), Washington DC, USA during 1991 and to The Earth Institute, Columbia University New York during 2009.
  • He is also teaching the South Asia Module of the course “Comparative Agriculture and Food Systems” under Masters in Agri Business Programme of Kansas State University, USA through distance learning mode.   
  • He has completed 10 research projects as the PI and 3 as co-PI. He is currently involved in 5 research projects which are funded by various national and international funding agencies such as the Columbia University, New York.
  • He has published more than 70 research papers in the Journals of national and international repute, written 11 research reports and a book.
  • He has taught the subjects of Advanced Agricultural Economics, Advanced Financial Management, Agricultural Policy, Money and Banking and Agricultural Finance and Cooperation to the Post Graduate students of the PAU.
  • Two Ph.D and four M.Sc. students have successfully completed their degrees under his guidance and he is currently guiding one Ph.D and and one M.Sc. student.
  • Currently, he is the President of the Indian Society of Agricultural Development and Policy, Ludhiana, Member of the Editorial Board of the Indian Journal of Agricultural Economics, Mumbai, Vice-President of the Indian Society of Agricultural Marketing, Hyderabad and Executive Member of the Agricultural Economics Research Association (India), New Delhi.
  • He was given RT Doshi Foundation Award by Agricultural Economics Research Association during 2006 and 2008. He was also invited by the Indian Society of Agricultural Economics to deliver Keynote paper on “Agricultural Credit and Indebtedness” during 65th Annual Conference held at PAU, Ludhiana in November 2005.
  • He has visited many countries such as USA, New Zealand, U.K., Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal, etc. on professional assignments.
