On the occasion of National Remote Sensing Day 2018, a national workshop on "Popularization of Remote Sensing amongst School Children” was jointly organized by the Indian Society of Remote Sensing (ISRS) and Punjab Remote Sensing Centre (PRSC) at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana. Based on the theme ‘Remote Sensing - What and Why,’ the day is marked to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr Vikram Sarabhai, Father of Indian Space Programme. Students from 24 schools participated in the drawing competition. Three winners from each school were declared and certificate to each participant was awarded by Dr Brijendra Pateriya, Director, PRSC and S. Janmeja Singh Johl, a renowned artist and writer. Amongst the school winners, top three state level winners were selected and awarded by the dignitaries. The three top nominations have been sent to Indian Society of Remote Sensing, Dehradun, to compete at the national level competition. The first, second and third prize were bagged by Sacred Heart Convent School, Sarabha Nagar; GGN Public School and Guru Nanak International Public School, Ludhiana, respectively.
Dr Pateriya, Director, Punjab Remote Sensing Centre and Chairman, ISRS-Ludhiana Chapter, who was the chief guest, highlighted the importance of remote sensing technology and its applications in various fields.
The Guest of Honour S. Johl motivated the students to inculcate inner skills for developing art and culture.
Mrs Reenu Sharma, Scientist, PRSC, delivered a lecture on ‘Application of Remote Sensing in Day to Day Activities.’
Dr R.K. Setia, Scientist of PRSC; Dr Som Pal, Professor, PAU and Vice-Chairman, ISRS Ludhiana Chapter; and Mr S.K. Sahoo, Scientist, PRSC and Secretary, ISRS Ludhiana Chapter, motivated the students to enhance knowledge on remote sensing for their career advancement.
