Research Priorities

 

Production of transgenic crops and application of newer tools of genetic engineering for better use of agro-biodiversity to break yield barriers shall receive greater attention.

Research to improve nutritional and other quality attributes to match international standards will be intensified.

Major emphasis would be laid on natural resource management through generation of environment-friendly technologies.

Low input-cost technologies like zero tillage, bed planting, genetic resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses, use of leaf colour charts, etc. shall receive increased emphasis for all crops.

Research on management and recycling of crop residues and agricultural byproducts would be intensified.

Technologies for efficient post-harvest management and agro-processing for value addition and extended shelf life of perishable agricultural produce shall be strengthened.

Technology for cultivation and processing of aromatic and medicinal plants and organic farming will be developed.

   

Participatory research with involvement of farmers and end-users like industry to develop commercially acceptable technologies will be intensified.

Farm machinery development for precision agriculture technology generation for ground-water recharging and conservation will continue

Application of Geographical Information System (GIS) and Geographical Positioning System (GPS) for precision farming and management of natural resources will be made.

Increased emphasis will be given on women empowerment for household management in farm women operations.
