About The Ludhiana and University
Ludhiana is Punjab's most populous metropolis and important industrial town. It is famous for its hosiery goods, which are in demand in all the markets of the east and the west, which include America and Russia. Woolen garments produced here are sold all over the world. Ludhiana is the home of Punjab Agricultural University, which is leading centre of the spread of green revolution, is situated on the outskirts. Rural Olympics of Qila Raipur, Chharpper Mela and Kisan Mela at Punjab Agricultural University, attracts lakhs every year.

Ludhiana offers students a range of opportunities to get to know about the lifestyle and atmosphere of the inner city suburbs located close to the University. The inner and outer surrounding of University are home to a mix of students, staff, professionals and long term residents. The libraries, cafes, restaurants, stationary stores, book stores, museums, sports centers, shopping centers and parklands are located in these areas.

Geography and Location
Ludhiana is situated at a latitude of 300 54' N and longitude of 750 48' E with a altitude of 247 m above mean sea level. This district is characterized by Indo-Gangatic plain land with slight slope. It is one of the major and industrial city of Punjab (norhtern state) and about 320 kilometers away in the north from the New Delhi (capital of India). The famous Union Territory state, Chandigarh, is only about 110 km in the east from Ludhiana. The Amritsar which is famous for Golden Temple, is about 160 km away in the west.
Suburb Guide
The student home of the university campus is a perfect place to stroll between lectures with its cafes, canteens and stationary store. Suburbs such as Ghumar Mandi, Firoz Gandhi Market, Saraba Nagar, Chaura Bazar and Gate No. 3 also offer a variety of clothing stores, bookshops, galleries, markets and shopping precincts. These suburbs are either within walking distance or a short automobile trip to the university campus.

Getting Around
Public transport around inner city of Ludhiana is readily accessible. Automobile are the main form of transport and cheap source to and fro from the University Gate No. 2. Alternately, many students ride a bicycle and two-wheeler to get around campus and the inner city. The University is situated at Ferozepur Road and is approximately 5 km away from both railway station and bus stand. Automobiles are available for both these places. There is a direct rail and road connection between New Delhi to Ludhiana who land at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi. Climate and Clothing
Ludhiana enjoys a subtropical climate and has five district seasons. Temperatures are warmest in the summer months of April, May and June. These months are characterized to tropical and semi-arid climate with dry summer. Average temperatures range from 21.5 degrees Celsius at night to 37.5 degrees during the day. It is almost dry and sun scorching temperature in day time. It is not uncommon for temperatures to reach 40-45 degrees during the summer. The Month of December and January are cold with sometime being extreme of below dew points. Average winter temperatures ranges from 5.7 degrees during day. Temperatures rarely go below freezing, and snow in Ludhiana is almost unknown. The dense fog in the morning and evening hours is being appeared during second fortnight of December to January (sometimes fog remains whole day to weeks). Spring (February to March) and autumn (October and November) months in Ludhiana are  pleasant, with generally sunny days and cool nights. Average spring temperatures ranges from 9.3 degrees at night to 24.1 degrees during day. Whereas average autumn temperatures ranges from 13.1 degrees at night to 29.3 degrees during day. The average monthly rainfall during October to June ranges from 6.0 mm to 66.4 mm with an average of 24.4 mm. The month of July, August and September are hot, constitute rainy season and humid climate. The average temperatures range from 24.4 degrees at night to 33.8 degrees during day. The average relative humidity ranges from 60.7 percent at night to 85.0 percent during day. The average rainfall during these months ranges from 101.8 mm to 232.1 mm. It is important that you should be prepared with suitable clothing for Ludhiana's varied climate. There are no restrictions on students wearing religious attire. Warmer winter clothing, including coats, sweater, jumpers, inner and strong boots are advised for the winter months, and can be easily purchased in Ludhiana itself. Light and comfortable cotton cloth is preferably chosen by most of the students during the month of hot or summer and rainy months. Raincoats is required especially in rainy season.

On Arrival
On arrival at University via University Gate No.2 reach at the Foreign Student's Hostel and consult with Hostel Warden/ Hostel Staff for stay. They will arrange the accommodation till permanent room is allotted. There is no availability of Family Hostel till date in the University campus and therefore those students who accompanied by their families are advised to hire the accommodation outside the University campus. The accommodation is easily available in surrounding areas of the University.
