The University has instituted a number of gold medals for award to the students on fulfillment of certain prescribed conditions. These medalsare conferred at the time of annual convocation of the University or prize distribution function-cum-convocation of the respective colleges. The detail is as under:
A. UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMMES.
1-One college level medal is awarded at the convocation to the students securing highest OCPA (not less than 8.00 out of 10.00) in the programmes mentioned below:
(i) B.Sc. Agril (Hons.)
(ii) B.Tech. (Agril.Engg.)
(iii) B.V.Sc. & A.H.
(iv) B.Sc. (Hons.) H.Sc.
2- Dr.P.N.THAPAR GOLD MEDAL.
This medal has been named after Dr.P.N.Thapar, the founder Vice-Chancellor of PAU who set very high standards and traditions by way of strict discipline and excellence in every field.This medal is awarded tothe student who is adjudged as the best all round graduate of this University during a year.
3-Dr.SUKHDYAL NIJHAWAN GOLD MEDAL.
This medal has been named after Dr.Sukhdyal Nijhawan, a soil Scientist of international fame. This medal is awarded to a student who secures the highest OCPA (not less than 8.00 out of 10.00) from amongst the students of B.Sc. Agril (Hons) in soil Science.
4-Dr.RAM DHAN SINGH GOLD MEDAL.
This medal has been named after a great plant breeder of International fame. This medal is awarded to a student securing highest OCPA (not less than 8.00 out of 10.00) from amongst the students of B.Sc. Agril. (Hons) in crop science in the subject of plant breeding and genetic.
5-S.S.LABH SINGH GOLD MEDAL.
Professor Labh Singh was founder of LSS variety of cotton premier American variety which revolutionized cotton production in the state. This medal is awarded to a student securing the highest OCPA (not less than 8.00 out of 10.00) from amongst the students of B.Sc. Agril.(Hons.) in crop science in the subject of Agronomy.
6- ASPEE GOLD MEDAL.
This medalis awarded to a student securing the highest OCPA (not less than 8.00 of 10.00) from amongst the students of B.Sc. Agril. (Hons) in plant protection. B.POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES.
1-SARDAR KARTAR SINGH KAHLON GOLD MEDAL.
This medal has been named after a great agriculturist who contributed immensely for the development of horticulture in Punjab and reclaiming large tracts of waste land in the districts of Karnal, Jalandhar, Ferozepur and Ludhiana. This medal is awarded to a student who is adjudged as the best all round student in M.Sc. (Agril. Science) in the University during a year.
2-Dr.AVTAR SINGH ATWAL GOLD MEDAL.
Dr.A.S.Atwal was agreat administrator who played outstanding role for the development of PAU. He remained dean, COA for 11 year. Under his leadership as dean COA, this college was awarded institution Award 1977 by the federation of Indian Chambers of commerce and Industry. He is the founder president of India Ecological Society. This medal is conferred on all round best student of M.Sc./ M.V.Sc./ M.Tech. of the University.
3-LALA SRI RAM JI GOLD MEDAL.
Lala Sri Ram Ji dedicated his life to the growth of industry, agriculture, commerce in India. He was a great industrialist and guided many educational industrial and agricultural organizations. This medal is awarded to a student securing the highest OCPA (not less than 8.00 out of 10.00) in M.B.A. programme in the University.
4-BHAI BAL MUKAND GOLD MEDAL.
Bhai Bal Mukand rendered outstanding service as an Assistant professor of mathematics and physics agriculture college, Lyallpur. He provided able leadership to his colleagues at a critical juncture of this premier institution of agricultural education in Punjab and contributed considerably to its present stage of development. This medal is awarded to the overall best student securing the highest OCPA (not less than 8.00 out of 10.00) in M.Sc. (Mathematics/Physics/Statistics.).
5-SARDAR BAHADUR LAL SINGH GOLD MEDAL.
Sardar Bahadur Lal Singh was the first director of Agriculture of Punjab and was responsible for establishing Agriculture college at Ludhiana which ultimately developed as the present PAU. In recognition of his services, postgraduate laboratories have been named after him. This medal is awarded to a student who secures the highest OCPA (not less than 8.00 out of 10.00) in M.Sc. pomology.
6-Dr.SARDAR SINGH GOLD MEDAL.
Dr.Sardar Singh was a brilliant scholar in the subject of Entomology. He served various organizations of over 30 years and was plant protection advisor as well as director of locust control to Government of India. This medal is awarded to a student who secures the highest OCPA (not less than 8.00 out of 10.00) in M.Sc. Entomology.
7-SARDAR IQBAL SINGH DHILLON GOLD MEDAL.
Sardar Iqbal Singh Dhillon is one of the most eminent farmers of the state and has been awarded a title of 'Potato King' for promoting cultivation of potatoes in the state. This Medalis is awarded to a student who secures the highest OCPA (not less than 8.00 out of 10.00) in M.Sc. plant breeding.
8-Dr.S.C.DUTT GOLD MEDAL.
Dr.S.C.Dutt made outstanding contributions towards researchon parasitic infections of livestock and bagged Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Memorial prize for 1964-65 .This medal is awarded to a student who secures the highest OCPA (not less than 8.00 out of 10.00) in M.V.Sc.
9-Dr.M.S.RANDHAWA MEDAL.
Dr.M.S.Randhawa was the soul of this University. He was a great scientist, administrator, educationist, art critic and sports lover. This University owes special debt of gratitude to him for taking it to international heights. The faculty and students cherish the memory of his creative leadership as Vice-Chancellor. This medal is awarded to a student who writes best essay on 'Evolution of life.'
10-Dr.NARINDER SINGH RANDHAWA GOLD MEDAL.
Dr.N.S.Randhawa was a great soil scientist and an able administrator. He remained director General of I.C.A.R. for 5 years and bagged many national and international awards. This medal is awarded to the best student of M.Sc. soils programme of the University.
11-Dr.GURBAKHSH SINGH GILL GOLD MEDAL.
Dr. Gurbakhsh Singh Gill played a key role in making cultivation of New Mexican Dwart Wheat varieties a success in the state and was awarded Dr.Borlaug Gold Medal. This medal awarded to the best student of M.Sc. Agronomy.
12-Dr.K.KIRPAL SINGH GOLD MEDAL.
Dr.K.Kirpal Singh did a yeoman's service in rehabilitating the fruit industry in Punjab. He was the first Director of Extension Education in PAU and held this position for seven years. He also remained as Dean, postgraduates studies and bagged a number of awards including padama shri by government of India in 1972.This medal is awarded to the best student of M.Sc. Food technology every year.
13-LATA MAHAJAN CHINNA GOLD MEDAL.
This medal is awarded every year to the best 'girl athlete' of the University.
14-Dr.B.R.SHARMA GOLD MEDAL.
This gold medal has been named after Dr.B.R.Sharma who served on PAU faculty for many years and later on as Vice-chancellor of Dr.Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture and forestry, Nauni, solan. This medal is awarded to a student who secures the highest OCPA (not less 8.00 out of 10.00) in M.Sc. vegetable crops.
