Dr. Bharpoor Singh Sekhon got his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree (Soil Science) from Punjab Agricultural University, and Ph.D. (Soil Science) from the West Virginia University, USA. After having served the Punjab State Department of Agriculture for about 14 years, he started his professional journey in the PAU from Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Sri Muktsar Sahib; and via a limited stay at KVK, Moga, he took over as Assistant Soil Chemist in the Department of Soil Science at PAU under the All India Coordinated Research Project on Soil Test Crop Response Correlations (STCR). Dr. Sekhon provided leadership to the project for more than a decade besides handling some ad-hoc projects on diverse soil fertility and plant nutrition aspects. Besides nutrient cycling in agroecosystems, his research interests focus on rapid assessment of soil fertility and other properties using diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, geostatistical assessment of spatial variability, and soil test crop response correlations. Dr. Sekhon was selected to the post of Associate Professor (Soil Fertility and Plant Nutrition) during 2016 and was transferred to the new role as Editor Research in the office of Director of Research during 2017. He has been the Chief Editor of the Agricultural Research Journal (published by the PAU since 1964) since 2018 and lead editor of the PAU Annual Report since 2017. He was promoted to the post of Professor (Senior Editor Research) during 2019 and was transferred to the post of Associate Director of Research during 2022. Besides his mandated assignments, he continues to teach M.Sc./Ph.D. students in the domains of soil chemistry and simulation modeling in agro-ecosystems. He has so far been the major advisor to nine M.Sc. and two Ph.D. students.
