The Department of Mathematics, Statistics and Physics came in to existence in the year 1964-65. Dr K C Chanda was the founder head of the department. A full-fledged Department of Physics came into existence in the year 1972 with Dr. S P Puri as the founder head of the department. The department offered Masters degrees in Statistics, Physics and Ph.D in Statistics. The Department of Mathematics, Statistics and Physics were again merged in 2001, in the process of reorganization of the university departments renaming it as Department of Mathematics, Statistics and Physics.

The present faculty strength is 11 that comprise of 4 Professors/equivalent, 7 Assistant Prof. /Equivalent. Besides teaching, the faculty of the department is actively engaged in research in the following areas
