PAU - KVK FATEHGARH SAHIB HOSTS FIELD DAY ON GOBHI SARSON CULTIVATION

PAU’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Fatehgarh Sahib, in collaboration with the Directorate of Extension Education at PAU, Ludhiana, and ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana, organized a field day focused on the cultivation of gobhi sarson in village Boran. The event aimed to showcase the performance of cluster frontline demonstrations, promote the health benefits of canola oil and encourage further adoption of canola gobhi sarson cultivation in the region. Approximately 50 farmers from the village actively participated in the informative session.

Dr Ajay Kumar, Assistant Professor in Soil Science, extended a warm welcome to the farmers and initiated discussions on the profitable cultivation of gobhi sarson, advocating for the adoption of canola sarson. He emphasized nutrient management strategies tailored for Rabi oilseeds, offering valuable insights to optimize crop yields.

Technical lectures were delivered to enlighten farmers on various aspects of canola cultivation. Dr. Manisha Bhatia, Assistant Professor in Home Science, elaborated on the culinary uses of canola oil and elucidated its nutritional benefits, providing firsthand information to the attending farmers.

Dr Amanpreet Singh, Assistant Professor in Agronomy, shared cultivation practices tailored for Rabi oilseeds, imparting essential knowledge to enhance agricultural productivity. He stressed the importance of expanding the cultivation area under canola cultivars and promoting sustainable farming practices.

The field day also facilitated interactive sessions, during which farmers provided feedback on the remarkable performance of the Gobhi Sarson variety GSC-7. Their keen interest and appreciation highlighted the efficacy of oilseed cultivation in the region.

In a gesture of gratitude, S Amrik Singh, a progressive farmer, extended a vote of thanks to all participants, acknowledging their active engagement and contributions to the success of the field day.
