PAU - KVK HOSHIARPUR EMPOWERS FARMERS WITH DAIRY ANIMAL MANAGEMENT AWARENESS CAMP

Punjab Agricultural University’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Hoshiarpur, in collaboration with the Department of Climate Change & Agricultural Meteorology, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, organized a farmer awareness camp on dairy animal management. Held at the KVK campus, the event aimed to equip farmers with essential knowledge and resources to enhance their livestock management practices.

Dr Maninder Singh Bons, Associate Director (Training) at KVK Hoshiarpur, warmly welcomed the esteemed dignitaries, farmers, and farm women, highlighting KVK's commitment to supporting the farming community. Dr Bons emphasized the importance of diversifying farm income through subsidiary occupations and encouraged attendees to participate in vocational training programs offered by KVK. He also underscored the significance of leveraging social media tools promoted by PAU for agricultural knowledge enhancement and shared valuable insights on integrated pest management for Rabi crops.

Dr Prabhjot Kaur Sidhu, Principal Scientist (Agrometeorology) at the Department of Climate Change & Agricultural Meteorology, PAU, Ludhiana, briefed participants on the department's projects to benefit SC farming communities. She assured ongoing support for their upliftment and shed light on the impact of climate change and weather variability on agriculture.

Addressing the audience, Dr Sandeep Singh Sandhu, Principal Agronomist at the Department of Climate Change & Agricultural Meteorology, PAU, Ludhiana, emphasized adopting resource conservation technologies, particularly water conservation practices, in Kharif crops to enhance sustainability.

Expert sessions conducted by KVK Hoshiarpur's specialists, including Dr Parminder Singh (Associate Professor, Animal Science), Dr Ajaib Singh (Assistant Professor, Agricultural Engineering), and Dr Karamvir Singh Garcha (Assistant Professor, Vegetable Science), provided valuable guidance on dairy animal management, feed formulation, value addition, processing of agricultural produce, and integrated nutrition gardening.

As part of the SCSP project, dignitaries provided farmers and farmwomen with cattle feed and mineral mixture for demonstration purposes, facilitating practical learning opportunities.
