28-03-2024

The Farm Advisory Service Centre (FASC) in Kapurthala recently organized a field day showcasing the effectiveness of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) recommended Surface Seeder for wheat sowing. Held in the fields of progressive farmer Sardar Joginder Singh in Village Shahwala Andrisa, Sultanpur Lodhi block, the event witnessed active participation from key departments including Agriculture, Co-Operation, NABARD, as well as PAU centers such as Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) and Regional Research Stations (RRS).

The Surface Seeder, hailed for its cost-effectiveness at just Rs 300 per acre, emerged as a game-changer in wheat sowing, offering a sustainable solution for managing paddy straw without resorting to burning. Seven progressive farmers were honoured for their early adoption and promotion of PAU technologies, including Joginder Singh, Mukhtar Singh, Sukhvinder Singh, Bhazan Singh, Dilbag Singh, Balwinder Singh, and Ajaib Singh.

Notable attendees among the 200-strong gathering included progressive farmers Sardar Joginder Singh, Sardar Kirpal Singh, Sardar Kulvir Singh, Salwinder Singh, Balwinder Singh, Nirmaljit Singh, and Secretary Talwandi Chowdrian. Participants were impressed by the spectacular wheat fields sown using the Surface Seeder and pledged to adopt this technique in the upcoming Rabi season.

Dr Pardeep Kumar, the incharge cum SES (SM), delivered an inspiring speech urging farmers to swiftly adopt the Surface Seeder for convenient wheat sowing.
