About 200 farmers participated in the field day on oilseeds and pulses, which was organized by the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) in the village Taranji Khera (Sangrur) under Farmer FIRST Programme. This project is running under the aegis of Directorate of Extension Education, PAU.

Dr Prabhjot Kaur, Principal Investigator of the project, who was the chief guest, briefed about the project activities. She said there were six different modules of the project under which different interventions were being organized in the two adopted villages. A total of 100 demonstrations on gobhi sarson and 50 on chickpea were being conducted in the adopted villages Taranji Khera and Chatha Nanhera, she informed.

Dr Ranjit Singh, Assistant Professor (LPT), shared tips for the management of livestock during hot summer months.

Dr Dilbag Singh, Vegetable Breeder, advised farmers about important practices of summer vegetables for getting maximum production. He said despite good production of vegetables, it was important to conserve natural resources.

Dr Tarsem Chand, Senior Research Engineer, stressed upon the processing of farm produce, especially, turmeric, wheat, pulses and sarson. He said processing of these crops was affordable to farmers at small scale as machinery for this was not very costly.
