Prof. Ramesh Chand, Member, NITI Ayog, Govt. of India convened a special meeting at NITI Bhawan, New Delhi to discuss agriculture development in Kandi region of Punjab. The meeting was attended by Dr. Manmohanjit Singh, Director, Regional Research Station, Punjab Agriculture University, Ballowal Saunkhri, Mrs. Santosh Kataria, MLA, Balachaur and progressive farmer Mr. Prem Chand Bhima.
Various agriculture related issues of Kandi region and their probable solution were discussed in detail. MLA Balachaur discussed issues like lack of irrigation water and less employment opportunities in kandi region. Dr Manmohanjit Singh informed about the various agriculture constraints of kandi region and their probable solutions. He shared that there is need of agro-processing and value addition of agriculture produce, research and promotion of organic farming, commercial level production and marketing of medicinal plants, scope of agro-eco-tourism etc.
Prof. Ramesh Chand shared his concern for these issues and shared information about various central schemes which may be utilized for solving these issues. He called various experts from the NITI Aayog and discussed these issues in detail and asked for submission of proposals through state government for solving these issues.
Prof. Ramesh Chand was honoured for his contributions for successful establishment of PAU-College of Agriculture at Ballowal Saunkhri. |
