LUDHIANA POLICE COMMISSIONER VISITS CHRYSANTHEMUM SHOW ON CONCLUDING DAY; PRIZE DISTRIBUTION CEREMONY HELD IN THE EVENING

A scintillating view of colourful chrysanthemums captivated the beholders during the two-day Chrysanthemum Show which concluded at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) today. The show was organised in the memory of a father-figure of Punjabi literature Bhai Vir Siingh, who had an intense interest in nature as it brought elation to him. Exhibiting 12 classes and more than 3,000 pots of chrysanthemums, the show received an unprecedented response from the flower lovers and growers, amateurs and hobbyists, educational institutions, etc. It was jointly organized by the Department of Floriculture and Landscaping as well as the Estate Organization of PAU.

Mr. Mandeep Singh Sidhu, the newly appointed Commissioner of Police in Ludhiana, visited the flower show along with the Vice-Chancellor, Dr Satbir Singh Gosal. Appreciating the beauty of the exhibits, Mr. Sidhu said, “Chrysanthemums are a beautiful reminder that even though winter is approaching, there is beauty in the fall! The colours and the fragrance just wash over you, and transport one to a place of happiness.” Dr Gosal seconded his statement and signified the flowers as a sign of hope that reminds us that life is worth living.

At the prize-distribution ceremony, the chief guest Dr Ashok Kumar, Director of Extension Education, observed that the chrysanthemums personified the power of nature and the development of human perfection. “They are a symbol of sublimity and modesty, hope and yearning,” he said, while stating that the blooming chrysanthemums presented an insight into of the eye of the scientist as well as the competitors participating in various competitions. Later, he gave away prizes to the winners.

Dr Parminder Singh, Head, Department of Floriculture and Landscaping, said that although the show has been organised after a gap of three years, yet it has evoked an awe-aspiring response from the city residents, schools and colleges, nurseries and flower enthusiasts. He also called upon the visitors to participate whole-heatedly in Annual Flower Show, slated for February 2023.

Results

In the incurved category, Tarni Bector of Ludhiana; Anu Dutta of DAV Public School, BRS Nagar, Ludhiana; and Dr Seerat Singh Sekhon of Ludhiana, secured the first, second and third positions, respectively. Besides, Prem Chand of DAV Public School, BRS Nagar, Ludhiana; Anu Bector and Jogjeet Singh Sekhon of Ludhiana, bagged the top three prizes in this category.

In the reflexed category, Jogjeet Singh Sekhon and Adesh Kanwar Sekhon of Ludhiana clinched the first and second prize, respectively, while Hari Prasad and Puja Singh of DAV Public School, Pakhowal road, Ludhiana won the third prize.

Dr Seerat Singh Sekhon, Jagtesh Singh Sekhon and Ridhi Bector of Ludhiana got the first, second and third prize in spider category, respectively.

Jagtesh Singh Sekhon of Ludhiana, Minakshi Minhas and Sunder Lal of Delhi Public School, Ludhiana won the top three positions in decorative category.

Adesh Kanwar Sekhon, Jogjeet Singh Sekhon and Dr Seerat Singh Sekhon of Ludhiana clinched the first, second and the third prize in pompon/button category, respectively.

In the single/semi-double category, Mohinderpal Singh of Ludhiana; Ram Lal of Delhi Public School, Ludhiana; and Jogjeet Singh Sekhon and Neelam Dhanda of Ludhiana won the top three positions.

Jagtesh Singh Sekhon of Ludhiana, Ram Lal of Delhi Public School, Ludhiana; and Nishan Bector of Ludhiana bagged the first, second and third positions in spoon category, respectively.

In anemone category, Diya Ram and Ram Lal of Delhi Public School, Ludhiana got the first and second prize, respectively, whereas Dr Seerat Singh Sekhon of Ludhiana and Prem Chand of DAV Public School, BRS Nagar, Ludhiana won the third position.

Rashmi Bector of Ludhiana was awarded prize in any other category.

Jagtesh Singh Sekhon and Jogjeet Singh Sekhon received the first and second prize in specially trained chrysanthemums, respectively.

In the arrangement of pots (5 feet), Nirmaljeet Kaur; Mohinderpal Singh and Charandeep Singh of Ludhiana; and Pavneet Kaur of Ludhiana got the top three positions.
