PAU IMPARTS TRAINING IN HI-TECH VEGETABLE FARMING

The Skill Development Centre of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) organised a training course on “Vegetable Cultivation using Hydroponics, Soilless Media, Rooftop and Net-house Technologies” in which a total of 29 farmers and farm women participated.

Dr Rupinder Kaur, Associate Director (Skill Development), said that organic vegetables were highly beneficial for the human health. Despite space constraints, vegetables can be cultivated on the rooftop of the house, especially, in the urban areas, she advised.

The Course Coordinator Dr Prerna Kapila highlighted the benefits of pesticide-free vegetable production.

Dr TS Dhillon, Head, Department of Vegetable Science; Dr Rakesh Sharda, Head, Department of Soil and Water Engineering; PAU experts Dr Ruma Devi, Dr Salesh Jindal, Dr Rajinder Dhall, Dr Mohinder Kaur Sidhu, Dr Harpal Singh Bhullar, Dr Rupeet Kaur Gill, Dr Dilpreet Singh, Dr Sayeed Patel, Dr Sukhjeet Kaur, Dr Nilesh Bilwalkar, Dr Angrej Singh, Dr Mahesh Chand Singh, Dr Diyaneshwar Madane, Dr Samanpreet Kaur and Dr Sudhir Thaman were the resource persons. They provided tips for hi-tech vegetable farming, saving water, cutting costs by reducing excessive use of agro-chemicals, and obtaining high yield and profit.

Ms Kanwaljit Kaur proposed a vote of thanks.

Meanwhile, a two-day training course on “Drip and Sprinkler Irrigation and Poly-house Cultivation” was also conducted for agricultural officers.
