Three faculty members of College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology (COAE&T), Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), have been granted Indian copyright number 21261/2022-CO/SW titled “Material Estimator for Brick wall.” These scientists comprise Er Sarvesh Kumar from Department of Civil Engineering, Dr Rohit Sharma from Department of Processing and Food Engineering, and Dr Chetan Singla from Department of Soil and Water Engineering.

The lead developer Er Sarvesh Kumar informed that the developed software copyright has a user-friendly interface and generates accurate output instantly. “This software estimates the quantity of material required for the construction of brick masonry. The software provides total number of bricks, quantity of material required for the construction of brick wall. The process of calculations for finding total number of bricks, quantity of fine river sand, Bajri and cement required for the construction of brick wall is time consuming. This software also gives quick result by just putting desired values in it,” he divulged.

Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, congratulated the scientists for their innovative work in obtaining the software copyright and impressed upon that more such innovative works need to be brought out in future to improve the visibility of PAU.

The Director of Research, Dr AS Dhatt said that this software will help farmers, masons, engineers, architects and builders to find the quantity of material required at site before starting construction of walls of agriculture field channels, rooms, buildings and side walls of canals. Besides, it will be helpful in the budget planning, he observed.

Dr Manjeet Singh, Dean, COAET and Dr VP Sethi, Head, Department of Civil Engineering, while congratulating the multidisciplinary team of scientists in developing first software of its kind in India, said that obtaining copyright shows grasp of highest level of computer and software skills of faculty apart from working in agricultural engineering. They commended and appreciated their efforts.
