Leaving no stone unturned in carving the destinies of the youths, the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) unveiled the stellar performances and accomplishments of its students in the domain of academics and agricultural research during 2022-23, today.

Divulging the vital details, Dr MIS Gill, Dean, Postgraduate Studies, informed that PAU was highly elated to see 17 students from its constituent colleges bagging prestigious Prime Minister Fellowships during 2022-23. “Of total 68, 25 per cent fellowships came in PAU’s kitty,” he disclosed, while attributing the success to the unflapping efficiency and unwavering perseverance of PAU faculty as well as unflagging devotion of its students.

Elaborating, Dr Gill revealed that students spared no efforts in qualifying the national level examinations too. A total of 153 students qualified National Eligibility Test (NET) and 60 students qualified ICAR’s Post Graduate Scholarship (PGS)/Junior Research Fellowship (JRF)/Senior Research Fellowship (SRF) during 2023, he said. In addition, eight students secured top positions and two topped at the national level examinations, he told.

Apart from this, the students’ performance has seen an upswing and remained par excellence in the field of research, he observed. The University had applied for 57 patents by August 19, 2023, of which 32 were based on postgraduate students’ research comprising 12 from Masters and 20 Doctorate research, he told. Furthermore, Dr Gill highlighted that PAU, a world-class agricultural university, was spreading its wings at the international level also to check inbreeding, widen and broaden the horizons of its students, and give them practical exposure on the foreign land. The last five years have seen a jump in the number of students making it to foreign varsities, he said, while informing that nearly 70 PAU students from School of Agricultural Biotechnology have gone abroad for pursuing higher studies.

Catering to high standards of agricultural research and education has not only been a forte with PAU, but also a foremost responsibility which the University has performed outstandingly and done its best remarkably, stated Dr Gill. In a highly global competitive era, PAU’s Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and Placement Cell were in the process of arranging classes as well as coaching for the preparation for PM Fellowship, NET examination, ICAR’s PGS/JRF-SRF, Agricultural Scientist Recruitment Board (ASRB) exams, Graduate Record Examination (GRE), Punjab Public Service Commission and Union Public Service Commission, informed Dean PGS. Provision of good library facilities at PAU’s Dr MS Randhawa Library has also enabled students to secure top ranks and make a mark in their respective fields, observed Dr Gill.

Commending the all-round efforts of the Dean PGS and the PAU faculty, Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, said that the University was highly jubilant to celebrate the exceptional results and outstanding success of its students, taking the University’s graph to all the more heights in the national and international arena.
