Dr MS Randhawa Library, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), celebrated World Book Day to honour the great works of the authors published around the world.

Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, who was the chief guest, observed that the day has become a platform for the people across the globe, especially, the stakeholders of the literary world including authors, publishers, teachers, librarians, public and private institutions, humanitarian NGOs and the mass media to come together to promote literacy and help everyone get access to educational resources.

The guest of honour Dr GS Miglani, a retired Professor of Genetics and an eminent writer, exhorted the students to read books in this age of electronic era.

In her presidential remarks, University Librarian Dr Yogita Sharma informed that the special day has been marked by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as an attempt to promote the love of reading, writing books, translations, publishing and copyright.

During this event, a competition of PAU students on book cover designing was organized and three prizes were given to the first three designs, out of total 17 participants. Ms Anamika K from College of Community Science won the first prize, while Ms Jhanvi Sandal from the College of Agriculture and Ms Gurleen Kaur from the College of Community Science won the second and the third prize, respectively.

Dr Sandeep Sharma, District Language Officer, was the guest speaker during this occasion. Mr Rishi Pal Singh, Registrar and other officers of the University also participated in this function.
