PAU IMPARTS TRAINING IN IMPORTANCE AND UTILIZATION OF MILLETS IN DIET

The Department of Extension Education and Communication Management in collaboration with Department of Food and Nutrition, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organized a one-day training programme on the “Importance and Utilization of Millets in Diet” at the village Jandiali, Ludhiana. Around 25 household women participated in the training, held as a part of Shree Anna Gram Programme under the aegis of All India Coordinated Research Project.

Dr Renuka Aggarwal, Scientist, Department of Food and Nutrition, highlighted the pivotal role of millets in the well being and health of individuals. She also explained the ways of including millets in routine along with appropriate cooking practices.

Dr Ritu Mittal Gupta, Senior Scientist, Department of Extension Education and Communication Management, encouraged the women for entrepreneurial skill development and role of millets in revenue generation through entrepreneurship. Besides, Dr Gupta explained various upcoming entrepreneurial trainings to be conducted at PAU.

Recipes based on millets such as foxtail millet cutlets, foxtail millet kheer, ragi idli and roasted grain mix were prepared, and hands on experience was given to women for entrepreneurial development.

Later, trainees thanked PAU scientists for arranging such a useful training and committed to participate in future trainings and start entrepreneurship.
