The PAU-Krishi Vigan Kendra, Bathinda conducted a five-day vocational training on “Goat Farming” in which 70 farmers/farm women and rural youth from different villages participated.

In his welcome address, Dr Gurdeep Singh Sidhu, Deputy Director (Training), KVK, Bathinda, oriented the participants about the need and importance of agriculture and allied occupations.

The Course Coordinator Dr Ajitpal Singh Dhaliwal, Professor (Animal Science), delivered a lecture on various aspects of goat farming including construction of sheds, feed and fodder for goats, clean milk production, diseases control and vaccination, etc.

Dr GK Dhillon, Food Technologist from Regional Research Station, Bathinda, delivered a talk on the role of processing in goat farming to increase the farm income.

Dr GS Dhillon, Prof of Extension Education, delivered a lecture on Farm-Producer Organization (FPO), formation and value addition.

During this training programme, different aspects were covered including use of balanced fertilizer and pesticides in fodder crops, agronomic practices for fodder production, control of diseases in goats, and loan & subsidies in allied occupations. This vocational training programme concluded with a motivation to the trainees to adopt goat farming as an enterprise to supplement the family income as well as provide healthy and nutritious food to the family members.
