The mandate of this Regional Research Station is to conduct most adaptive and applied research in following thrust areas:
- Watershed hydrology, soil & water conservation and management.
- Identification of effective combinations of vegetative and mechanical measures to stabilize gullies and drainage lines.
- Studies on on-farm and off-farm water harvesting methods and efficient use of harvested water using micro irrigation systems.
- Identification/evaluation of crops suitable the region and development of agronomic practices for these crops.
- Fertilizer and nutrient management under dry land farming system and agricultural practices for crops without or with limited irrigation.
- Testing and verification of crops and crop varieties suitable for the area along with testing and verification of suitable cropping practices/technologies, implements and tools developed at the Punjab Agricultural University.
- Establishment of nurseries of horticulture and forest plants for supplying true to type and quality seedlings.
- Development of management practices for horticultural crops of the region and post-harvest technology for horticulture and agricultural crops.
- Development of agro forestry systems, agro-horticulture and silvipasture models including evaluation and testing of seasonal and perennial forage crops (grasses, bushes and trees) and forage quality improvement.
- Integrated insect pest management of horticultural, vegetables and field crops.
- To evaluate suitable cropping systems with medicinal and aromatics plants.
- To initiate research on allied occupations that could supplement income of the farmers.
- Extension services by holding Kisanmelas, organizing trainings, field days, exposure visits, demonstrations and TV talks etc.
